BLOG FLOG #24 -- KEELS & WHEELS, Seabrook, TX

Spent the weekend exhibiting my new electric blue Zephyr convertible at the Lakewood Yacht Club in Seabrook, TX, right "across the street" from the Houston Space Center, where they held their Saturday night banquet. I met event organizer Bob Fuller at Pebble Beach last year and he was such a class guy he convinced me to come to his 10th annual gathering of wood boats and classic cars. http://keels-wheels.com/ Held at the marina, dozens of fantastic Gar Wood, Chris Craft and Riva speedboats tie up and are on display. Fabulous craftsmanship, true floating art. On the grass surrounding the yacht club a fine collection of classic cars are on display, as well as a number of 50's & 60's cars and a smattering of street rods. Several exceptional cars were there including one of my all time favorites, the Shah of Persia Bugatti.

The event is billed as the Councors of Texas and it is truly a weekend with a lot of class. If they can just get over the hump and make it a true invitation only event rather than letting some of the same local cars in year after year, it can turn the corner and be considered one of the great concours in this country along with Pebble, Amelia and Medowbrook. I met a lot of neat guys there such as Ford Dealers Tomy Hamon of Texas City and Tony Gullo of Conroe. Tomy had a primo AC and Tony wowed everyone with his Salleen. Stay tuned...
